Carol Beach is a former speech writer to First Lady Hillary Clinton. Beach began her career as a high school social studies teacher and has spent most of her subsequent career working at the intersection of media and government. She produced National Public Radio’s The Diane Rehm Show from 1990 until 1997 and served as a speech writer for then First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton from 1997-2001. After the Clinton Administration left office, she helped found and served as Executive Director of Understanding Government (see www.understandinggov.org), a nonprofit foundation dedicated to improving the performance of the executive branch by helping journalists better cover it. She is now retired.
